  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Care Manager in the integrated community mental health team, day to day I support clients with completing Care Act Assessments, Care and Support planning, reviews including placements, accessing funding, supporting social works with safeguarding nominated enquiry work, liaising with other teams and working collaboratively.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned about mentoring, reflective practice and critical analysis. The apprenticeship provides the space and opportunity to develop my existing skills, my knowledge and expertise. It is enhancing what I have already been practicing in terms of the theories and also frameworks that underpin my work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship programme. I have got back into studying and developing my written skills with the assignments I am set. My tutor is supportive and I enjoy our 1:1 interactive sessions that support my learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very; I have a 1:1 each month where I am set the work for the time between sessions. I am aware of the expectations of me, when reviews take place and have an open dialogue with my tutor, manager and learning and development team.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager permits me to plan my own work diary to enable me to plan a minimum of one day per week towards my apprenticeship. We discuss potential learning opportunities that would compliment the course and we discuss my progress as part of my supervision.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have regular 1:1’s with my tutor and I’m able to contact them in between sessions should I need to with any questions, issues or concerns should they arise.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning and developing on my apprenticeship in a way that is suits the work I do as I am able to apply the learning to my role as I go which is beneficial to me to embed my learning into professional practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As part of an integrated team, we arrange our own social activities and have a wellbeing away day coming up. I’m unsure what is available in the wider location authority in terms of networking events.

  • Yes

  • Pay, structure, learning and development opportunities, career path, working for a local authority that aspires to put local residents at the heart of the services provided and I work in my role to enhance this with my interactions and work alongside our clients to maximise their wellbeing.
