  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I find and book holidays for people, take payments, answer the phone, send emails, give a holiday planning service where along with the holiday we offer parking, transfers in the other country, activities and experiences and insurance so we have to make sure that’s all offered to make sure the customer can be fully prepared. But on the whole it’s a mix of customer service and sales.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become a lot more confident when speaking on the phone and speaking to customers. I’m learning how to use all the systems properly. I have got better at finding information I need to know instead of relying on others to tell me. I’ve also got better at keeping a flow of conversation with customers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program as it involves customer service in a nice setting. I enjoy learning about all the different destinations and about different things people can do on holiday. I also enjoy learning about different types of holidays such as cruises and tours as they’re something I’ve never considered before.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find it very well organised, I have had plenty of training from as soon as I started. I know exactly what I’m doing in terms of my apprenticeship as the portfolio website is easy to use and I have frequent check ins with my assessor. Management are also very helpful in helping me learn how to do the job.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer, they care a lot about us learning everything right so they spend a lot of time training us so we’re confident in what we do and we can offer a good service. They check in with me many times a day to make sure I’m doing okay and if I need any help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I had an introduction call explaining exactly what was expected from me and how to use the platform that assesses me. I’ve send emails for queries and they got back very quickly helping me. We also have regular check ins to make sure we’re on track and to see if we need help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through my qualification I get to research a lot about destinations, policies, the company and other things, Especially with selling holidays it’s important to know the destinations as customers like knowing what to expect when they do somewhere new. It also shows us as being reliable as we can give them such a good insight

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are educationals where selected people can go to another country and find about more about the country, the culture, the hotels and other things. These happen a few times a year and after the educational you have to present what you’ve found to colleagues so that we can recommend places.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend TUI because I think the customer service is really good, because it’s package holidays as soon as you get to the airport everything is taken care for for you and it makes the process easier. In terms of working there I would also recommend it as you get plenty of support and training and there are plenty of benefits, everyone who I work with is also really friendly.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • I’d tell them to smile a lot as customers appreciate it a lot, I’d say to practice a good phone voice as you have to answer the phone a lot, to make sure you have good attention for detail and that you don’t have to know loads about different countries because you learn as you go along
