  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

    • I am a technical support apprentice. I shadow process technicians to learn how to resolve process issues within the plant. I have done rotations around plant to learn how to operate a variety of machines in each department as well as all the assembly lines.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

    • I have learnt a variety of new skills around manufacturing methods, fault-finding techniques and machine operation. I communicate with lots of different people on a day-to-day basis which has developed my communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

    • I really enjoy the variety in my role and the regular interaction with many different people

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

    • The program could be better organized. I am one of the first apprentices in my company to do this pathway so I am giving regular feedback on how we could be better supported. The communication because the college assessor and company could be better.

    • I receive the necessary support when required.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

    • I receive lots of support from the training provider. I have a monthly progress meeting and can contact my assessor by phone when required.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

    • The knowledge, skills and principles gained doing the qualification definitely help with the practical tasks and theory that is needed for my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

    • I personally have not looked into it so I am not sure. I do plenty of non work related extra curricular activities anyway.

    • Yes

  • 9b. Why?

    • I have found it a good company to work for and every single person I have met has been pleasant.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?

    • Do your research into the Cummins values and priorities, and ensure you align yourself with those. Display enthusiasm and ask lots of questions.
