  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of filing my emails so they are organised in the correct client/ team's folder, so that it is easy for me to see the daily tasks I need to complete. I produce quote slips with information that has been forwarded through emails between the underwriters and brokers, and then upload them to be signed by insurers. I file all emails that are sent with the clients we work with and complete any admin work required.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to use different systems that allow me to upload documents for underwriters to sign or propose different line conditions. I have learned how to update spreadsheets to easily inform clients on updated data or differences from the previous years and even how to word my emails in a specific way to sound more concise and professional.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do quite enjoy the apprenticeship programme that I am on, I enjoy learning about the different parts of insurance, and how I can apply it to my day-to-day job. I like how in-depth the different chapters in the book go into the separate components, like the underwriters, brokers, the London Market and the different regulatory bodies, such as the FCA.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe that the work to study ratio is good and the company ensures this is respected. I also think that the skill coaches involved provide good help in the personal development side of the programme, how to grow and progress through the apprenticeship, as well as aid through any problems which may be met with completing work or revision.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is very good with allowing the required 20% off the job time to revise, which I split into a morning and an afternoon at different times every week. They are always willing to explain any content that is causing any difficulty and they ensure that I feel confident in both my job as well as the exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As well as a skills coach, we have a teacher that works through the book and does interactive sessions online as well as in person. Any questions through email are answered quite quickly and any available resources are sent to our emails or attached on the websites provided for our apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning the content about the insurance market does provide an insight into what we do every day on the job, it explains why we do certain processes or who we talk to when we do business. It allows links to be formed between all the tasks we do and clears any fog on regulations we need to follow.

    9/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have had many networking drinks to meet the apprentice cohorts as well as other insurers, I am also part of the firms netball team and the Young Professionals team, which focuses on enriching youth and educating them about the insurance future, with many talks from senior members and past apprentices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture of the company makes coming into work really enjoyable and I look forward to logging on every day, due to the great team I'm in and all the support I receive not only from my immediate team but from anyone I come across, everyone is very welcoming and the opportunities that have been handed to me are super interesting and will be great to teach me how to be better at my job and succeed

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • Research the company before any interviews, be yourself and be open to anything you are handed. It will be very different to school as you are not taught any of the information you will use at this job, but anyone is capable of this apprenticeship and will have lots of fun while completing it.
