  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A quick overview of my role would be providing customer assistance whether it be in office or in the yard when customers require materials for a project theyre currently working on, answering phones and handling customer or store queries, receiving stock and checking it over, prepare orders to go out for delivery.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt quite a lot of new skills having working in Travis Perkins for a year and a half, from learning about the products and alternative products, the benefits of these products, the correct way to manually handle products, my maths has improved from working out areas and volumes for customer orders and the confidence to help a customer out only having little time in the industry

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like the tasks which are involved as not all modules are based in store and you do get to go out and see all aspects of the business i.e tool hire, going to a new site which our drivers have been delivering to, phoning suppliers to get some research of their products and the origin of how they create the items however working in a large, fast paced busy branch we do not always have the time to complete our training

    4/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it can be laid out a little easier and the webinars happen too early when our branch gets very busy instead of in the afternoons towards the end of the week. More often than not me and my colleague who is also taking part in the programme cannot attend the webinar as we do not have the staff

    4/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In the beginning it was becoming very hard to keep to the webinars and review appointments as we had a lot of staff off or staff that have moved onto different employment to managers would tell us to email the organisers and mentors to tell them we will not be attending and it is still pretty tough as we only get allocated an hour once a week to complete our work

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Training provider is usually very good at contacting the relevant management to overrule any decisions and make our apprenticeship imperative and also provides assistant with the simpler modules to get them done quickly. They usually set up appointments and add them to the google calendar to keep us up to date and reminded

    7/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me perform a little better as it covers all areas of the business including HR, GDPR, finance and banking, near miss reports, training on the TP mobile app, supplier and product research and also the best practice for learning and time management to help us fulfil our apprenticeship

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No there is not. It would be good to have a sporting event like a five or a seven aside football team to compete with other branches and it will aid in team bonding and give us some friendly competition. The social activities would probably fall under trade days which we do but that is only on the days when the weather is nicer

  • 9a. Would you recommend Travis Perkins Plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe Travis Perkins is a good place to grow and climb the ladder. The training and support provided to help you advance your career is great and there are many colleagues with a vast amount of experience from all different backgrounds and are closed during Christmas so you get a nice amount of time to spend with the family compared to being in another retail position

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • It can be daunting in the beginning learning the products but the most difficult part is learning the system i.e the computers and green screen. Easiest way to pick it up fast is to dive straight in, repetition, ask as many questions as you can and everyone would be happy to help
