  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of assisting the running of projects on the HMRC account. Day to day I create reports, have client meetings, price new pieces of work and I work 1-1 with the project manager. I have chance to work alongside the Early and Emerging team supporting new and potential apprentices

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained so much more confidence working for Capgemini, there are opportunities for me to step out of my comfort zone. Whether that is delivering presentations to potential apprentices, taking a lead on client meetings or being involved in training days. I feel as though I am recognised for the things I have learned too.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the content that Aston University put out. There are a wide range of modules that I have taken/ will take part in during the 3.5 years that relate to the job in which i have at Capgemini. Some of the modules I have enjoyed are: marketing and strategic management.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Fairly organised, we have a skills coach each from Aston that coaches us through the apprenticeship. The skills coach you are allocated definitely shapes your experience of structure. Capgemini are there if you need them but there is a fair amount of independent work involved. Questions and issues will be solved eventually with perseverance.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive support when I ask for it, we are allocated 22 days off a year to catch up with university and write our assignments. Our managers have absolutely no problem with us taking them when we feel is necessary. I am able to complete my uni work during working hours which relieves pressure.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have spoken to many employees across the company who are willing to help me complete my assignments. I have a reviewer at Capgemini who puts me forward for training days that help me hit the competencies needed to complete the apprenticeship. It would help if our managers were more aware of apprentices.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification we are working to obtain relates fairly closely to our job roles. Our assignments are largely based around our day to day working life and what we have experienced at Capgemini during our time there. It helps as we do research solely based on the company we work for.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a member of the gym at work, they put in a lot of effort to support employee health. There are boot camps and events that help employees kickstart their fitness journeys. We have played netball with work collegia’s after work. Capgemini also support many charities and opportunities to work alongside them always crop up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture at Capgemini is much healthier than anywhere else I have worked. It is welcoming and professional. Employees are willing to take time away from their working day to support those who are new to the company. Inductions are full of new starters and there are always people in the same place as you.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Be yourself and tell the truth. Capgemini do not look for fully qualified employees. They focus on the personality and willingness of the candidates to learn. They also focus on passion, as long as you come across passionate and enthusiastic about what you are talking about then you can’t do much more!
