  • I am a Business Support Officer and works within the school admissions department for Manchester City Council. Deal with parent/carers quires and update an in-house system.

  • Working on a new system that I had no knowledge about also how to work on different teams and the importance of GDPR in my daily role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Speaking and working through tasks if I don't understand them also knowing that someone is there to help it's a good thing.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well set out and time is used effectively also regular meetings help to explain the next step to take. I find that all areas of the programme is clear and user friendly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer, manager is always helpful and gives me a study day which helps a lot also if a meeting is required I can adjust my time so that nothing is missed. My manager is approachable and also checks on how I am doing on my apprentaship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot as I am dyslexia sometimes certain aspects I struggle with but my training provider helps in everything as it is explained and details are given in a way so I know what is need and what is expected of me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has opened my eyes as thinking more and recognising certain situations and what I need to do to rectify the situation. Also looking into the business side of the department I work in and the terminology used within it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of different events and clubs the council has sent up anything from health and fitness, walking, running to mental health. Also we have a volunteer day where you can help a charity/cause in the Manchester area. Also at Christmas a general knowledge quiz, and there are social events outside the office night out, meals etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Manchester City Council to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Getting to help and support the people of Manchester in different ways weather giving advice or pointing people in the right direction. Also being a Mancunian I have a bond to this city and want to see it do well.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Manchester City Council?
  • Know and investigate what your role you want and be open to new challenges, also sometimes it may lead you down a different path. Help and support each other and treat others the way you want to be treated. Try you best.
