  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • In the work experience there were a variety of activities that spanned over 4 days. It was all virtual but this was in no way an impediment to the experience- it was extremely interactive. Activities involved panel discussions, break out rooms, group debates and completing independent tasks that would be completed in a day to day routine of a working solicitor. One memorable activity was the street law workshop, where we reviewed a contract and debated on whether or not we should sign it. It was interesting using the important analytical skills and critical thinking that lawyers used, giving us a very useful and informative insight into what skills were important for a career in law.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learnt the importance of analytical skills and critical thinking. Reading over the contracts and drafts required extreme attention to detail, ensuring that not one clause is missed or swept over. Additionally, the need for communication is extremely important- communicating to other work experience students was so important for many tasks. Something unique to Pinsent Masons was innovation - finding new ways of sorting out a problem or coming up with a solution.

  • Extremely well organised - every activity started and ended on time. It was really helpful having a pre-made schedule as well - I was able to organise my day better. The platform Forage was very user-friendly and had many resources that we could make use of. I find it very organised and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • It has helped a lot - I feel more confident about applying to university for a law degree. • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • No I was not- the work experience was online and free so therefore there was no need to be paid or reimbursed. I just wanted to use the remaining words to thank all the staff who spoke to us and imparted their valuable advice - I really appreciate everything they said.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Yes- we had lunch times where we could network with other students. Also, we had a 'meet your supervisor' session where we spoke to employees in a company. It was extremely useful to have this in a small group setting as we did not feel intimidated to ask as many questions as we liked!
