  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • The programme was very packed with lots to do each day and all the sessions were very informative and helpful. We competed tasks which were very similar to what trainee solicitors do on a day to day basis and we also attended workshops which taught skills like commercial awareness and good CV writing skills.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learnt the meaning of commercial awareness and also how to improve it by checking the news and engaging in current affairs conversations. I got help in developing my CV presentation and wording to make a better impact on any employers. Finally, I was taught the basics of some departments at Pinsent Masons and what it’s like to be an employee there.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I loved my work experience and it was broken up very well with the right amount of breaks and session times. I do think that some sessions which are more vital should be slightly longer. I.e. the Jaffa cake exercise and the workshop on commercial awareness. Other than this however, it was excellent.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • The whole experience was exceptionally organised and the timetable was perfectly presented so I always knew exactly what I was doing and when my sessions were due to take place. I found Forage to be a brilliant resource for work submission, timetabling and joining meets. It was very well organised.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • There were many sessions about working for the company and all of these were very well put together and delivered. I very much enjoyed seeing the perspective of the trainee solicitors aswell who explained different ways into the firm and what their day to day lives were like. Very good.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • It helped very much and I think that I will definitely apply for Pinsent Masons if there is an opportunity that arises. The sessions definitely covered a lot of topics and gave a wide variety of helpful and interesting information. It definitely seems like the sort of work I would be interested in.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • The course was virtual so there wasn’t any costs associated with the experience. I would like there to be a course at some point which is in person for the four days as I think it would bring a more personal and in depth perspective to the work experience.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • We met many other employees on the course and there was a wide variety of people who talked to us about their jobs and workloads. Unfortunately we weren’t able to network and add people on LinkedIn however there was an email address provided which was helpful for any questions.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere at Pinsent Masons is very welcoming and friendly. Unlike other law firms it doesn’t appear to be unfair or unwelcoming and I think that anyone who worked here would feel appreciated and valued. The firm has a big emphasis on equality and development and I think this is very valuable for it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Make sure that your application is thorough and well written as there are many people wanting to apply and it’s essential that yours stands out. I think that so long as you are yourself and don’t try to be someone different then you’ll fit in very well with the team.
