  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • It was a mixture of presentations of routes into a legal job as well as lots of talks with trainee solicitors. We also had lots of presentation focusing on particular aspects of law and the daily jobs of a solicitor specific to each sector alongside small group and longer independent work.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learned a lot about the law and especially what people do in their daily lives. Although to a lesser amount I gained some confidence in presenting online as well as communicating online in slighter larger groups. I also gained some knowledge into reading legal clauses and and ability to understand legal documents.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the group exercises however I did feel they were a bit short and not as good as it would've been in-person. I wished the groups were smaller and the tasks longer. I found presentations on Routes into Law and CV tips a little bit boring since I'd already received a lot of the information in other places however I understand they are necessary. On the other hand I really enjoyed the case studies and picking out how the law applied to them, especially real-life cases we heard from trainee solicitors.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • Very well organized. Forage is a brilliant platform and Pinsent Masons made very good use of it. Everything was on time and varied and the information you needed was presented to you, although not immediately obvious and sometimes people did get confused about where to get particular documents. Every meeting was on time and ended on time too and all the breaks were well places.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • Pinsent Masons definitely focused on this and on our Insight Day in London we were given a lot of information on how the daily life for a solicitor really is. We learnt how they appreciate hard work and put a great deal of importance on employee satisfaction and well impacts on the environment which was strengthened by a later presentation on being a Responsible Business.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • I had done previous work experiences so life as a solicitor was already appealing to me and Pinsent Masons only made it better. Pinsent Masons did place a importance on really telling us what life as a solicitor is and were not afraid of telling us of the hard work and long hours alongside how interesting it was.

    9/10

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • No. We were not since it was a work experience. It was also online so they would be no real reason for them to pay us excluding perhaps the Insight Day. Although they didn't offer to pay they did give us lunch and well as lots of snacks on the Insight Day which was more than enough.

    3/10

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Lots. On the insight day we given time before to talk which was ultimately awkward but we introduced ourselves and a few shared contacts. We also had multiples networking lunches both on the insight day and online and I myself was able to meet two trainee solicitors and have a good talk.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Mainly the work ethic. I enjoy hard work and the fact here I am appreciated makes it an excellent place for someone who wants interesting, fun and ultimately challenging work. They also placed a focus on being a responsible business and the presenter was very passionate about being not only a profitable but a successful business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • I think you have to be yourself. The application form is long and rather difficult compared to others I applied to so simply doing it takes a while. Therefore you must take your time, not only writing but also thinking and for this particular application not repeating yourself. You will learn a lot in the Work Experience about it funnily!
