Experiencing what it is to work in a commercial legal firm by meeting and talking to a variety of solicitors and legal trainees. Took part in a few legal tasks such as debates, drafting and reports. A mixture of both practial legal knowledge and how to get into the legal world.
Learned everyday legal words and how to draft reports and statutory documents. Also learned about what exactly i needed to do to get into the world of work. Was very insightful and I learned a variety of things through panel talks, training sessions and discussions. I also learned how to operate and use the Forage platform.
I enjoyed my work expereince hugely. Not only did I meet a lot of trainee and qualified solicitors, I also met and spoke with a lot of new people my age through the networking sessions that were held during the lunch hours. I went into this programme a little apprehensive but overall my expectations were well exceeded.
The programme was very well organised and structured. Through the Forage platform, I could see exactly what tasks I had for the whole week and when I had to log on to see them. They also provided us a huge amount of resources to help us feel comfortable during the programme.
I learned a huge amount about the company both through the online week and the in-person insight day. I learned that the office is very open and welcoming but also they they really appreciate personal growth within the company and run an internship programme for traineee retention rates. Overall a very good insight to the company.
It is very hard to gain legal insight during school, so this programme really helped with confirming that this is what I want to study in college and do with my life in the future. The people on this programm were a huge help in this by talking us through how they decided to do law.
I was not paid for this experience as it was only a summer school work experience programme. However the internship and trainee programmes that Pinsent Masons offers are paid, which I think is a great opportunity for a college graduate and I will definitely be looking into it in future.
There were huge opportunities for networking. We had two supervisors that we met with to chat and over the five days total I had three networking lunches where I got to speak to other people, both work experience students and trainees.
Yes
They were incredibely welcoming and open to everyone. The programme is great for secondary school students who are trying to find out what they want to do in college. They gave us a load of information and were very open to answering any questions that we had. I would definitely recommend a friend to apply.
Make your application stand out. Talk about your hobbies and interests and don't worry too much about trying to make everything about law because they are also looking for interests that show other parts of your personality aside from wanting to study law because everyone who is applying wants to study law. Standing out in your application is a great way to succeed.
