Work Experience Student Review

This work experience opportunity involved appearances from real-life lawyers who shared their experiences and provided us with advice and guidance surrounding pursuing a career in law. As well as this, the programme was highly interactive and we all participated in group excerises, which gave us a real insight into a day in the life of a lawyer.

The opportunity to complete some independant tasks allowed me to develop and understand the shills needed in everyday lawyer life. One of the tasks involved reviewing lease documents and providing a summary of its contents for a client. The other task was to do with statutory interpretation and drafting, in which we had the opportunity to practise drafting clauses. All of this was very insightful basic training.

In my opinion, this work experience programme exceeded any expectations and preconceptions I had previously. The interactive nature and insightful information and tasks allowed me to confirm the idea that I will one day want to pursue a career in law. The programme made me excited to continue my journey with law at university and as a job.

I thought the work experience programme was very well organised. Beforehand, we were provided with a student timetable to which each session was clearly outlined with a time and what it involved. Each session ran smoothly and provided us with helpful information which always involved times of interaction and opportunities to ask questions.

By having people on the programme of all different positions who work at Pinsent Masons, it was very insightful and enjoyable to listen to. The working environment described seemed to be inclusive and respectful. To work there, you would always feel appreciated and a part of the team. Everyone was so friendly.

For me, this work experience programme confirmed that one day I will pursue a career in law. The insight provided into the day to day tasks this career involves and its opportunities to engage with clients and build valuable relationships, motivates me to reach my goals. Advice from trainee solicitors also encouraged me to consider studying law with Spanish at university.

I was not paid throughout this work experience opportunity. This programme aims to offer an insight and valuable advice to those of student age to allow them to consider if life as a lawyer is suited to them. After the application process I was delighted to hear back from Pinsent Masons to have been given a place in the programme.

This work experience provided a couple of networking lunches to which other students in the programme could talk to eachother and discuss their own career paths and ideas for the future. I attended one of these sessions and it was interesting to hear the different values of each student and how they aim to reach their goals.

There was no opportunity to feel bored or unappreciated. Each student participating in the programme was encouraged to interact and engage with others. The sessions involved various areas of interest and multiple guests who each brought a different insight into the world of law. The programme was full of excitement!

It is clear that Pinsent Masons values enthusiasm. In my application I ensured to demonstrate the excitement that I held to be given this work experience opportunity. The section of the application process that involved writing about your own interests told me how Pinsent Masons values each of its employees and their different ways of experiencing life. I would advise to simply show what makes you stand out and bring something different to the table.
