  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Running packages on site e.g. brickwork, cranes, logistics, roofing etc. This involves monthly valuations of works, assessing cost changes, progress and commercial review meetings, instructing works, agreeing contracts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn a handful of skills from my day-to-day job, university and internal Mace training. This ranges from how to fulfil the quantity surveyor role, general construction knowledge, people skills, transferable skills and even communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme as no day is ever the same, there is always new challenges, people, stages of the job/packages to be involved with. My team are very social too so outside of working hours is also great fun.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised. At the start of every year we are made aware of what days we will be in training. We have reviews with the emerging talent team and our line managers regularly to raise any issues and review progress to stay on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is alot of support, from line managers, the dedicated emerging talent team, to other apprentices/'buddies'. Mace have a great culture for encouraging apprentices to learn and gain plenty of experience.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have skills assessors assigned to us all that we meet with our line managers to review progress and discuss any issues. Further, lecturers are always on hand and provide drop-in sessions to provide support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it helps greatly as it helps solidify the basic construction knowledge which can be overwhelming when entering the world of work straight away. It also helps gain an understanding of why we have to do things a certain way e.g legal reasons.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are lots of internal groups e.g. Women at Mace, which exist for all groups of people to join. There are also lots of social events, we are given a volunteer day every year to help the community too. There are also discounted gyms.

  • Yes

  • Mace has a great company culture and offers so many opportunities whether it's joining an active group or working abroad. They provide great support within work in all aspects of life and I've met some amazing people.

  • Apply yourself to Mace's values and show in your interview why/how you align with these.
