  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a technical apprentice, I complete 3 month rotational placements around the various engineering departments, including: electronics, mechanical, software, systems and several more. Each day varies but I am working on real life project and gaining valuable experience from each individual department. My final year will be complete in my chosen placement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship due to the working environment provided by Leonardo. I have been pushed throughout to go above and beyond and have been recognised for my passion in the programme. the learning provider has had several flaws however. The organisation has been poor from them and it has made that side quite frustrating.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the overall apprenticeship has been very organised and structured. I was provided with a placement plan which is to be followed up until the completion of my apprenticeship. Having regular progress reviews has ensured the placements remain organised and keeps a record of my progress throughout. On the other hand, South Essex College have been very unorganised and it has made it much harder than it needed to be. We have had several issues with them and it is very hard to get them corrected in an efficient way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of support from my employer regarding placement and college issues. Progress reviews are complete every 12 weeks which provides me with the opportunity to voice any issues and concerns and also request further support if needed. Leonardo has always been quick to react to this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • there is little to no support given by the training provider whilst working towards the qualifications. The college tutors barely offer any support and there has been several instances when we have had no tutor for several months. regarding NVQ, my NVQ assessor has been very helpful with offering support but in general it has been appaling
