  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Collecting and analysing water samples from the power plant as well as analysing transformer oil samples which involves handling data while booking them in. Also, I upload results online and create COSHH forms as well as send emails. I also help maintain the chemistry of the power plant.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Everyday I am learning new things which help me develop new skills such as communicating, presenting, problem solving as well as learning power plant chemistry skills which are essential in this job role.

  • I enjoy every day of my work which is always different and where I am always learning new things.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is new to my employer therefore it is not fully developed but my manager makes sure that I am consistently learning and developing into my future lab role. Everything is organised to a high level.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Whenever I don't know what I am doing or if I have any questions my work colleges and manager makes sure that they spend time with me so that I understand what I am doing and so that all of my questions are answered.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider always answers my emails on the day or next day and they make sure to keep pushing me forward so that I keep progressing. They are also very well organised and always provide me with adequate information.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that this qualification is perfectly set up for ensuring that once my apprenticeship is over that I am ready for my full time role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to Covid-19 all the extra-curricular activities have been suspended but now slowly they are starting to form again, one example is the social and recreation club which is organising it's first meet.
