  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Jobs get sent through to me using an app called MyJobs. Using appointment times j manage my day and decide what customers I will visit in what order. Contact them and arrive on-site to repair, provide or advise on a telephone and broadband line. After my jobs have been completed I then can decide to pick up more jobs or go home at 4:10PM.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Of course I have. I started off with very little knowledge of telecommunications sector and day to day work in the field. Aswell as how to deal with customers and how to best communicate with them to get the best result for both of us. New skills such as repairing cable and all sorts of other things.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much enjoy my programme. My apprenticeship coach [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is an excellent person to learn from and to be guided by in my apprenticeship. We have monthly workshops to get us through and it’s laid out very well. It’s nice to see other people in the same boat when we meet up.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. Once a month a workshop, once every 10-12 weeks a progress review to reflect on how we are progressing through our apprenticeships until our EPA and then finally through to passing, or getting a distinction. They are all here to help and it’s very easy to follow.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support whenever I need it. When I joined it was clear you can get support, statuary from the first day of training. All the enginners locally are there to help and advise if you need and you have friends to help with day to day issues, aswell as safeguarding contacts if you need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a fair bit of support from them during my apprenticeship days. Support from technical side is like PowerPoints and a lot of information, this is to help us through the apprenticeship to the EPA hopefully with the best knowledge we can get and revision resources to further help us pass.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With all the information I get on my workshops and progress reviews it definitely benefits me and the other engineers in my group. We get to see other situations and other advice we wouldn’t normally get. Aswell as more knowledge from our coaches which does really help, it is good.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there is. Currently I’m not involved in any but there is golf tournaments that my manager once mentioned, I don’t play golf but if I did I would maybe consider that. There’s Openreach football teams across the country that I would maybe consider. There is many volunteering opportunities aswell and Openreach give you days off to use that opportunity.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Since I joined I’ve been welcomed. Given training for 8 weeks and more with friendly enginners in the same situation. Good class trainers and then coming back to my local work area I have support from engineers who also like to hell when they can a provide a good team basis for our ethic and get customers in service.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Prepare information in interviews. Have an interest in what we do as openreach and have an idea of what it involves. Be prepared for lengthy training which is really beneficial and enjoyable. Look forward to hearing back from Openreach and continue to research the company and what it means. Customers are very important.
