  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Help to support the production floor by making everything digitalised. As a degree apprentice I learn the modules at university and then apply that knowledge to my work at Bentley. At the moment I am working on coding the website to make it look better and more visually appealing to the eye. Learning html and css at uni has helped this.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst there can be a plethora of benefits to working from home, such as negating the need for a commute, it also comes with challenges. The switch to full-time home working while socially isolating was a big change for many, and continues to prove difficult as the time stretches. In this remote set up, building and managing an effective routine, juggling conflicting priorities, staying motivated, and maintaining productivity are key. This requires sharp time management skills, self-discipline, and a high level of accountability.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am currently really enjoying my programme as I have had quite a diverse workload as well as working in 2 placements of 3 weeks to get a feel of the production floor. So overall I am enjoying it and if i do need any help my manager is always on hand to answer any questions.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Again very well structured. My workload in the first year is manageable which is good considering I have university aswell and the fact i am new to the business. Overall everything has gone smoothly and as i had hoped and i hope it carries on that way

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They are always there when you need them and if you cant find the answer of them they will point you in the direction of somebody who has the answer, in which they expect you to be proactive and call or email them to get the understanding you need to get.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of support. For some modules the support is better than others. But overall very good support and if you do need to ask any questions the module leader will happily answer them inperson or in a teams meeting call. And they will go through it with you until you get it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • So far what I have covered at uni mirrors what i do in the workplace. Recently I studied html and css at uni as a module then I got tasked of making the website look more visually appealing. So my task is to now code the website to make it look like what one of the managers has pruposed.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes all the time. Bentley has a range of groups such as charity events, talks, sporting events(This hasnt been common due to covid). I remember john barnes coming in for a talk about racism. So we do have a lot of things going on its just whether you be proactive in applying.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bentley Motors to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Very reputable company with really good working conditions and staff.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bentley Motors?
  • If you have finished college then get some experience working in the field you're applying for even if its for free. For those IT and Tech related apprentices I'd highly recomend going on a bootcamp before the course. I did an AWS course and a course with Codenation and that boosted my chances in getting the role because it showed i was proactive to the employer and its something you can talk about in interviews. If you cant do this then work on projects and you can then talk about them.
