  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being an apprentice, I do not have a day to day role. I work on a number of different projects which allows me to gain an insight into all functions across Logistics and Manufacturing. I specifically work on implementing Lean operations and designing processes. In addition, I work on future site strategy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely, starting my apprenticeship I had not yet used any of the systems I use today. For example excel, starting my apprenticeship in 2019 I had limited knowledge on how to input, manipulate and analyse data. Since 2019, I have become confident in using and presenting my results. There are a number of systems in Logistics which I have had the same experience of including SAP, IWS, CAD and Optafleet.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my current program to a large extent. However, I find juggling university and a full time job difficult, this ultimately has decreased my work life balance. I tend to find university taking up my full weekend week on week. I do however believe this occurs due to saying yes to all the opportunities which are provided at Bentley. I find it fantastic that there is so much to get involved in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme at work is great, lots of variety and opportunities to develop my learning. However, I find my structure of university tying into my job poor. I have found that my employer and university do not communicate, thus meaning I spend my a lot of personal time completing assignments. This is something in which I would like to have improved.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is great, there is always development opportunities available which I find extremely beneficial. I have found that saying yes to all opportunities allows my knowledge of the business and development to improve. I also feel that my employer will support with any issues which I may have with regards to approaching managers about tasks which I am struggling with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Limited, I find my training providers difficult to manage. This is due to communication, I have found that my university studies are very independent with regards to lack of feedback and communication in general with my training provider. Over the years, this is something in which I have accepted and managed myself.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The degree which I am currently completing will be extremely useful in the future. I find that I can apply lots of theories and models from my university into my day to day work faith my employer. This has enabled me to understand technical challenges which I would not have understood without my training provider.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra curricular activates, prior to COVID I played football with a group of people from across the business each week. This was a fantastic opportunity to get to know people with the same interests as myself. In addition, the apprentices have committees which set up socialevents outside of the workplace

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bentley Motors to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have found that Bentley is a great employer for a number of reasons. My main reasons would be due to the development and opportunities available, I have worked here for almost 4 years and the opportunities have only increased. In addition to this, I am trusted to manage my own time effectively which I find great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bentley Motors?
  • Be ready for a challenge! Having a full time job whilst working towards a qualification is not easy. It requires to go above and beyond. However, the reward will be great. I would advise anyone to do an apprenticeship due to the fantastic opportunities available. If I were to suggest a tip, I would say to apply for an apprenticeship which you have a genuine interest in, this is because I believe you will get the most benefit out of your apprenticeship this way
