  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The apprenticeship has made me think about the theories and strategies around performance and understanding different values and attitudes towards learning, what motivates people and how to get the best out of my team, my tutor is always helpful in providing me with information on where to research a topic and feedback on where i need to focus my efforts. I tend to approach situations differently now, it has been mentioned and noticed by my manager, that this is due to the apprenticeship improving my management skills.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At present, we are all working from home, so there have not been many chances to get involved in anything at work, previously, i set up a small group of staff, who played badminton every week, we would also have a rounders sports day and barbeques, birthday and Christmas meals out and social gatherings for people leaving. Swimming and power plates sessions were also weekly activities i used to do outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Dorset Council to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The Council has a strong set of community values, their behaviours framework sets out respect, responsibility, recognition and collaboration and strongly believes in fairness and consistency, the attitudes and behaviours of the "one team" vision of being an employee of choice, is why i would recommend them, as they believe in developing their staff.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dorset Council?
  • Provide evidence that you have researched the role, find out more about what you would be expected to do, as the job descriptions are generic, it helps to get a specific view. All applications are done online, we do not accept CV's so everyone is treated fairly and consistently, try the apprenticeship route, this gives you an opportunity to get more skills, whilst being a permanent member of staff and being paid for it.
