  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • While on placement at pwc I worked in the Audit business unit and involved working on real audit clients each day. As this was my first placement it meant that going in we had no prior experience so the tasks we were given would begin simple, and the seniors we worked with would always take the time to explain the work well, but as we progress and became more competent and confident we gained more independence in the work we completed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While on the placement I developed many of my skills, ranging from basic people skills that come as a result of working in teams, or in the office, to the highly specialised skills relating to the professional work that we complete. Working as a full time employee also teaches you a range of life skills that you don't necessarily encounter as a student.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoyed my program so far as it allowed me to not only get a taste for professional life, I also got the opportunity to explore a new city, both in my own time with the other flying start students, but also during the many different social events that the office put on to encourage team bonding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well structured, the process runs very smoothly and you are always receiving timely updates via email to any information that you may need while part of the program, even in the year prior to your placement when it comes to things such as office location selection.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC is a great company when it comes to the support they provide. They really do have their ways of showing that they care about each of their employees. This was demonstrated both on a whole through the resources they share, and the number of support networks put in place for you as an individual through various positions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The work we complete towards our qualifications is solely run through the university, this part of the program was run to a very high quality, and they even continue to provide support and advice for our studies while we are away working on placement so that we always feel involved and supported.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some of the modules in which we covered in year 1 of the degree, and the module we started prior to beginning our work placement provides an excellent foundation of knowledge for the work we do while at PwC, the theory work really does go hand in hand with the job as they both aid understanding of each other.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the Leeds office there were plenty of social events that were put on for us to attend, this ranged from formal dinners to month end drinks. I believe there are sports teams that run at the company though I did not chose to take part in them while on placement.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I'd recommend PwC as it is a really enjoyable company to work for, they show care over their employees and everyone is so kind when on the job. The work I did on placement was a really beneficial learning experience, and the program allows me to get that work experience while also attending and enjoying university.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • When it comes to applying for the company all I have to say is just do your research, when you know what you're talking about it really does show and the more you look into the company the more you realise how big of an opportunity this program is and you work harder to get your place :)
