  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a front of house team leader. My role involves leading my team on a day to day basis on both the bar and on the floor. Dealing with the public and taking their orders and sorting out any problems to the best of my ability. Assisting the manager and running the shift in their absence.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • By doing this apprenticeship I have learnt more about myself and the way I work. I have used the experience gained to change the way I deal with things and how I work when dealing with other team members. It has helped me improve relationships with the team that I lead and also with my stakeholders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At first I found it very hard to combine training, studying, and homework with my working pattern. At times I felt like just throwing it all away and walking away but my trainer managed to convince me to keep at it and complete the course despite all the setbacks I faced and I’m now pleased with my decision to stay and complete the course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At first I didn’t think much of the organising of the course, I felt pushed from one trainer to another and never really knew who to turn to but then my last trainer was beyond excellent and kept me informed of what was happening and where I was at every point,

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When I first joined the course I got plenty of support from my general manager and area manager but when the structure of our management all changed and we gained a new general manager and new area manager I feel like I didn’t have any support from them at any point.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When the first trainer was appointed there I got support but then I was appointed a new trainer that didn’t really explain thing or offer much support, I was then approached by lifetime and I expressed my desire to complete the course and they linked me up with a wonderful coach and trainer who took time to get me through and help me complete my course..

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has taught me things that I would never have learnt about both myself and the way that I work. It made me sit up and think how I was actually performing and how I could utilise the knowledge I was gaining in order to better my performance within my role,

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We don’t have any extra curricular activities that are organised, we are like a small family at my new place of work so we do arrange to socialise outside of working, My current manager is also a councillor in the community so we are always welcome to involve ourselves in any charity events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that I have had a bad time with Greene King. Ne’er had a pay Rise - always been on minimum pay, Have never been rewarded for anything that I have done well and feel that support from higher ,management is very thin on the ground. I feel like the company does not listen to its employees

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Look carefully about the position you are applying for. Do plenty of homework and prepare questions. Don’t take their offer of employment straightaway. Compare your position and pay to that offered by others and always think twice before confirming - always try to negotiate to ensure you are getting the best for you,
