  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • A series of workshops and seminars designed to help students gain an understanding of the legal profession. We were assigned supervisors who could answer questions as part of a small group. We were given presentations on topics such as diversity in law, entry to law, and CV writing. We also had small theoretical tasks to complete.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I have learnt more about the path of becoming a lawyer. I have learnt more about diversity in law. I have learnt more about street law. I have learnt more about the day to day life of a lawyer. I have learnt more about how the ethos of pinsent masons.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • Overall, it was fairly enjoyable. I was very disappointed at the lack of face to face in person interaction which really let the programme down. Whilst I see how the programme could be engaging and interesting in person, this did not translate well through a screen and as such I thought it was decentlly enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • Organization by the team was excellent and I struggle to find an issue with the way PM ran the experience. However, the forage platform was a nightmare to use and made it less enjoyable. Tasks were buried under a confusing tab. I also dislike the use of teams and found it to be laggy and poorly optimised for mac.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I learnt a lot about the culture and what it would be like to work there. It seems that the environment is friendly and inclusive and it seems like a nice place to work. Due to it being online I have no clue what the office atmosphere is like, and such cannot comment on this.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • Not a huge amount - prior to doing the work experience I already knew my future career path and as such the work experience programme did not help me in this way. The networking event was useful, although it would have been nice to see more PM staff present so as to maximise the value of the event, although I understand that this is not very reasonable.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was not paid or reimbursed for this experience. I believe this was fair as we did not have any costs as it was online. Additionally, we did no formal work for PM and as such there was no need to be paid. Maybe a gift (t-shirt/ mug etc.) would have been nice.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There were opportunities for networking although it would have been nice to have had more. The staff who I spoke to were very friendly and helpful so I enjoyed that aspect of it. It would have been nice to have been more closely involved with the day to day operation of the firm so as to further my knowledge of PM.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • For someone with elementary knowledge, I think this would be incredibly useful so I would recommend it to a friend. I would not recommend the online programme, although I would be confident in recommending the programme if it was in person, simply because of how much more engaging it would have been.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • I'm unsure what advice I can give, to be honest. The application process was easy and did not require too much prior thought - it was mainly about what you have done so far, so it is hard to 'prepare' for the application process. Maybe some more information on the content of the programme before it started would have been nice.
