  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I start my day by conducting vehicle checks to ensure that it will be safe to drive to my jobs. Once this has been completed i sign onto my work portal and see what jobs have been allocated to me for the day. This could be installing a new fibre cable from poles to a house, or underground via ducts to a house. once the cable has been brought to the premises i need to install an ONT box inside the property and connect that, via another fibre cable, to the fibre being brought to the property, using a splicer, which fuses the 2 fibres together. I also work on faults if the customer i not experiencing the service they believed they would get or if they have a loss of services.

  • I have learnt a lot of new skills as i was not an engineer of any description before this. I would not have had any idea about splicing fibres together or how to connect cables to CBTs up poles
