  • Installation and maintenance of the copper telecommunications network to provide internet and voice calling to customers both business and residential.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned an enormous amount of new technical skills such as faulting slow broadband with my hand held tester. I have also developed my communication skills through working with customers and classroom based instruction.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have massively enjoyed my program. Having the opportunity to apply my new skills to live tasks has made it really interesting and enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured and support was always available from my assessor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support from Openreach has been outstanding. From team managers, patch leads and the training and development team I have alway had the support I needed during my training.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My NVQ assessor fully supported me with my studies both on official NVQ days and everywhere in between.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I received has helped me to perform at a high standard as all of the technical skills I have learned have had to be carefully documented and presented in my portfolio. This has really helped with my understanding of my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I volunteer as a Well-being Champion and On the inspiring futures program where I have talked about my job role and apprenticeship to groups of college students via zoom.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The training is outstanding and the job is secure. The employee support package is fantastic and there is always something new to learn.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Research the company and find out things like the name of the CEO and a little about our service providers.
