  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing the financial status of a number of construction works packages on the Paddington Square project. This includes procurement, valuations and cost forecasting.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Development of communication and presentation skills. Building relationships within the team and externally (upstream with the client and downstream with subcontractors). Analytical skills used when looking to improve a cost position. My ability on Excel has also come a long way.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is enjoyable and varied. My role means I constantly have the opportunity to walk the site and learn about the physical delivery of the project. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by great colleagues who make time in the office more enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme is well structured and the Emerging Talent team are good at arranging regular training as well as other events. The training, both within the apprenticeship course and with the external qualification provider, is engaging and relevant to my role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a good amount of support from Mace, I feel that I am surrounded by people who are all happy to help me if I am struggling with something.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • LSBU has provided decent support for me. The lecturers are all happy to receive questions during lectures and are usually prompt as responding to my emails.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training I receive at university certainly helps my understanding of the technical aspects of construction. Some modules feel less relevant to my particular role but are interesting and engaging nonetheless.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, the Emerging Talent team arrange regular networking events for apprentices. There is a very good social side to my role, I often get together with my team after work.

  • Yes

  • Mace is an industry leading company which gives you the opportunity to work on high profile and exiting projects. The structure of the apprenticeship programme is great and the company is full of helpful who want to see you succeed.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • Do plenty of research into the roles available, try and get some work experience in the industry to make sure its for you, then go for it!
