  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is Application developer / Application support. On a day-to-day basis I look after multiple applications and their performance, supporting all types of incidents, problems and requests. There is an urgency in the account I am assigned to so working under pressure is part of the day to dat job as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The program is called "Get into Tech" so I had no previous technical knowledge or experience. So far I have been exposed to JAVA, SQL, HTML, CSS, Software engineering theory and practice, building business applications, cloud trainings. There are so many opportunities to develop skills through Accenture's Internal training courses, you name it, they have it. I have also had external training on Java which was organized by Accenture. Obviously one can easily be overwhelmed because everything is new and you need to learn fairly quickly and new languages are not easiest skill to develop.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • When it comes to combining Master's studies and work it could be fairly intense which needs good organizational skills. On the other hand, there are study days you can book off work during term times. The bridge between the company and the university could be improved. So far, I enjoy the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The team I work with have been absolutely amazing, supporting me from the start, providing me with trainings, helping get familiar with the project and everything I need to know to be able to sufficiently do my job. They were very understanding and supportive with my need of tech upskilling. This is the first Master's degree apprenticeship so in the beginning the induction was not what Accenture usually provides, which was a disadvantage, however this should be better organized for future. Communication between the company and the training provider needs to be improved.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel supported from my team and Line manager. There is also a Career counselor / People lead which you are assigned to. They are the first point of contact when it comes to your career progression, feedback and support in what is next. Generally, support is available at all levels, you just need to ask.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Fair support. As previously mentioned, this is the first Master's degree apprenticeship programme of its kind. The line is very thin when it comes to successfully managing both sides - university and work. Support is available when asked for. They learn as they go based on provided feedback from us. The tech requirements sometimes do not match with the average level of the group and the initial "non-tech skills required" part of the programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the apprenticeship helps to gain theoretical and practical knowledge. My programme has just started few months ago, however I feel I understand the industry and tech roles much better now. It is very hard to align what you study with exactly what your day-to-day activities are, but in general it is helpful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are so many opportunities provided from Accenture to get involved with. Obviously in the current circumstances with the pandemic and lockdowns it is very different but nonetheless there are social activities and networking events at least every week, from the account/ project you work on or Accenture in general.

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The opportunity to get a tech degree nowadays, even without previous experience, but if you are interested in tech, and couple that with working with one of the top tech companies, is absolutely amazing. Obviously nothing so good is easy but it is worth it, especially in this day and age.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Application process - be as detailed as possible, be authentic and honest, you don't want to end up in a position you didn't really want. Assessment day for me was digital which was very new and exciting - know your company, the role you apply for, your interests and experience, show your best side and express why you should be selected for the role, be genuine
