  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I will go to the customers house and make a plan with them on how to get a new fibre cable from either a pole or an underground box to their property. I will then fit the cable to the building and make a lead in to the customer splice point I then drill a hole through the wall to put an inside out cable through to meet in the customer splice point and the cables get splice together.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt good customer service as I have to accommodate their ideas as well as mine when trying to make a plan as to where to put the cables. I have also learnt a lot of manual handling skills e.g. drilling hammering etc. I have also learnt how to keep calm and not get worried when things don’t go the right way.

  • I enjoy the programme a lot as I am learning all of these new skills and developing existing ones all whilst out actually doing the proper job. It’s good to learn all of these skills as well as being paid a good salary as well. I look forward to work and building my portfolio.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme is very well structured. It’s good having the apprenticeship sessions quite frequently so that we can work on our portfolios and it also it can help with all of the questions that we may have if were confused with something that we are meant to be doing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role by knowing exactly what I have to do and what is required for my job. For example in our portfolio we have to explain and provide pictures about what we are doing and why at certain points in our job. This helps me know exactly What is required from me

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend openreach to a friend definitely because it is such a great company to work for. They supply you with everything and anything. For an apprenticeship as the first year the pay is outstanding as well and then it goes up after the first year. I also look at it as a career for life as the internet is never going anywhere and it’s one of the biggest companies to work for

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would give them advice by saying looking into what the company are and what they are aiming to do. For example what their mission statement is and to revise what the job role is they will be applying for as that’s a lot of what they ask in the interview
