Trainee engineer Review

i am a trainee engineer. my role on a day to day basis consists of installing fibre optic internet into customers properties. it involves climbing poles with overhead provides, underground installs with opening joint boxes. it involves having good customer skills to deal with people and agree where they would like everything going.

for sure! ive learnt how to properly and safely use a ladder with using tetra deployed to keep me and others safe. ive learnt how to safely install overhead cables at height. ive learnt how to properly and safely use a gdu which detects gas. ive learnt how talk to customers and take into account their beliefs and wishes.

it is quite difficult to get into but with the help of our trainer it becomes easier. it is a lot to take in along with doing our job daily. i enjoy it somewhat and helps me learning different things about my job and job role. afte rthe first session things became easier

very well organised and structured, cant fault that. its a lot of information to take in but will get easier in time. i believe that its quite packed and so maybe some extra time should be allowed for us to catch up on admin etcetera throughout as after a long working day its the last thing i want to do.

i receive somewhat enough. i rely on more experienced engineers to guide me through my working day. im going to ask if we can get a few hours a month to catch up on admin etc as were so busy trying to get jobs complete that i dont take into account my apprenticeship.

He gives us enough information and guidance whilst were with him. he also sends us out handy links via email regularly. i believe one day a month is doable but maybe take into consideration others that may take more time and struggle a bit more. i think it could be extended a little to help overcome queries etc

i cant really give you a definitive answer on that yet because im only 2 sessions in. im more of a hands on guy that would rather get stuck into work to learn by doing a job. it will help me im sure in future but right now it doesnt really help me

nothing that i know of. to be honest i havent even thought about it or looked into. probably are some good team building excercises for us but as i said i havent looked into that but now youve mentioned it ill look into that and ask other engineers if there is such thing

because it has the potential to be a great job and long and worthy career. i do enjoy it even tho its quite full on. i work well under pressure it gets my brain working and keeps me on my toes. i enjoy customer satisfaction and the end of the job.

i would say listen more to what trainers have to say. i would say don't be afraid to ask questions, this is a new job and a complete career change for some. you didn't learn to drive without lessons so ask and absorb all in information. its a great job with the potential to be a brilliant career.
