  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Within my role I work within private client tax and corporate tax. I have to complete tax returns for individuals and companies to strict deadlines depending on the individual or the company. Each tax return is very different and diverse involving many other aspects such as admin and communication directly with the clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop my communication skills massively. This is due to speaking to different colleagues every single day and professional clients allowing me to adapt my communication skills depending on the recipient of the message. My confidence has excelled due to working in a professional environment every day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme because it entails different work every single day meaning every single day is different. The exams are really spaced out being every November and May allowing plenty of time to balance the work/study life. The people I work with are really great too allowing me to enjoy each day at work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very flexible and I have to take on a lot of the responsibility with the programme. This is because I have to take control of booking onto my exams and exam courses. It is well organised and well structured and very easy to follow so even though you have to do some of the organising yourself, it is not as daunting as it may seem.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is extremely supportive with someone to turn to if anything is ever wrong. No matter the issue, there will always be a solution best suited to yourself. Support for exams is given through TOIL which allows you to take time off to study that you would normally be working in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is great. There is always someone to turn too if you have any questions or worries. The exam courses provided provide enough support in itself when you are training towards your qualifications as they are really well laid out and structured and planned in order to provide you with the best experience and support towards exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe it does help me as it allows me to learn the back ground information and practice questions that I could face in my day to day role. However, I do think it is hard to find direct correlation because the qualification is structured for the exam and not for real life situations as such but this is made up by on the job training.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • This is very limited at the moment because of covid. However, prior to all of this and expected to continue before this there are professional networking events to join in with and social activities taking place within the work place every few months or so. Sports teams aren't really active.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend RSM to a friend because the company is a really great company to work for. You are valued within the firm no matter your position whether you are a new starter or if you are a partner and this is shown throughout your opportunities to develop and pay.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • I would give the tip of making sure you it is something you want to go into too because it is quite specific in what you qualify in. You need to be prepared to work hard and be passionate about the job role because it is very rewarding when you have been able to complete a piece of work.
