  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes working with clients in order to help them customise NetSuite in the most efficient and possible way. My daily tasks include scripting, configuring NetSuite, customising records/forms and communicating with internal/external people. It is my responsibility to deliver any agreed solutions between FHL and the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently completing a Level 5 apprenticeship in which I have developed many skills and gained knowledge in areas which I was not so confident in before. I have also developed many skills from my current workplace. These include time management, teamwork and communication skills. I have also developed my scripting skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying the apprenticeship programme however there is room for improvement. For example, apprentices are not entitled to any sort of salary increases (e.g. through yearly appraisals) whilst graduates, who have the same responsibilities as apprentices, are. However, I am grateful for the opportunity I was given to study and work at the same time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • FHL are very good at supporting my university studies. I am entitled to take every Friday as a uni day where I spend my time working on uni assignments/other projects. I have not had any issues around this before. Overall I am very happy with how everything is organised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am able to ask colleagues for help where needed and this does help a lot of the time. I have not had any issues with the HR team, they have been very helpful throughout my time at the company. I do believe some staff could take on a more 'positive' attitude at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Staffordshire University have been helpful most of the time. For example, a meeting with my uni mentor is scheduled once a month which is really useful for any questions/issues relating to the apprenticeship. I also attend progress reviews with my manager and someone from uni every 4 months which helps me keep track of my progress at uni.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Some of topics I have previously studied during my apprenticeship do relate to my role as a Software Developer (e.g. Software Fundamentals, Computer Systems Development). However, there have been a few modules which had no links to my role therefore I have not been able to put the theory into practise (e.g. Business Analysis, Databases)

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to Covid, I have not attended any in-person activities however online quizzes and movie nights have been held in the company. Before covid, each team was entitled to a team meal out where the teams could choose a restaurant and go there together. The company has also previously hosted Yoga meetings.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe RSM is a fast growing company who offers lots of career development opportunities. The company also offers many great benefits and discounts. RSM most certainly takes care of their employees through their monthly webinars and updated from the directors. Overall, RSM is a friendly company and I have not had any issues.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • Be yourself. During my assessment day, I had to have a very technical (role related) interview with one of the FHLs managers. I was not able to answer many of the interview questions correctly as I have only just left college and had no experience in the role i was applying for. My employers have told me they chose me for my personality, and not by how experienced i was!
