  • Fitting aircraft components onto new built aircrafts. This can range from building the aircraft wings or applying materials and components which make the aircraft wing fly. • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During the apprenticeship I have learnt many new news and also developed existing skills along the way and throughout the entire journey. These skills will help me become a fully qualified aircraft fitter and help me in later life if I choose to expand my job role into another field.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme was enjoyable in some aspects and in other not so much. There were skills I learnt which were enjoyable and as an apprentice we did activities which were enjoyable. There were opportunities in which the apprenticeship could be improved also. As covid 19 that when we were in our apprenticeship I found the enjoyment dropped as for many other apprenticeships around the country.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was organised to a good level whilst in college which is the first year. When entering the second and third year the apprenticeship was not well structured as the business didn’t have places for a lot of the apprentices or apprentices were placed in the wrong part of the business to learn the relevant skills needed for our job role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As a whole the employers supported the apprenticeship well. The support given to new starters was a much higher standard then to existing apprentices and often I found the best way to learn new skills was to ask other people who you work with rather than your own departments management.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support given by the training provider was to a good standard as monthly meetings are set up and work given so you can hit your targets. This worked well for myself and others around me as we new what to complete and when to do it by. The qualification was gained to a high standard.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification gained can help to perform the role in my job to a good standard because you have the opportunity to work in many parts of the business and can learn new skills which are relevant to the place you will work when the apprenticeship comes to and end.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are many events and activities you can join or take part in which the company set up. In my opinion there could be more events which could incorporate more people. But overall there are many events and activities in which you can enrol in the further your skills.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Airbus to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because the job at the end of the apprenticeship is a good solid job which there are many positives to. The wage is good and the opportunities in the company are far and wide. The career achieved once the programme has been completed is to a good standard and can be progressed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Airbus?
  • The tips and advice I would give to people thinking about joining airbus as an apprentice are; work hard at the path you would like to go down as there are many different paths you can take. Look into many options and work towards that option so you can achieve a job in that role.
