Audit trainee Review

i am an audit trainee, my role is to assist on the audit of financial statements while completing my level 7 accounting qualification. I work with a number of different clients from varied industry's and organisation types ranging from charity's to large PLCs which means my job role is always varied.

i came into the role with little to no accounting knowledge through a combination of external study with bpp and on the job training i am now able to confidently complete complex accounting tasks and understand the sort of transactions i am reviewing everyday. The role also requires great time management which is definitely something i have had to work on.

The role is very rewarding, working as part of a team and solving problems is great. With my varied portfolio of clients its good to be able to regularly work on something new to prevent you from always doing the same thing. At times it can be challenging but its good to now that people across the firm are always willing to help.

The program is well structured i have regular training sessions from within the firm as well as structured study days or college days, dependant on the exam, run by BPP. My progress is tracked with my managed and we talk about my overall progression through the qualification to a defined end date.

My employer are very supportive, with many of my seniors having completed the same qualification when they started they understand the workload and are very accommodative around times when you need to revise or have an exam. They are additionally always happy to answer questions to do with work even though they are themselves busy.

I have meetings every few months between me, my manager and a representative from my training provider where we discuss my up coming exams, past exams and my overall progress through the qualification this is great because they do offer additional support if needed to ensure you do as well as you can.

Coming into the role with no accounting knowledge seemed very daunting but starting my study's pretty much straight away really helped as i understood a lot more of what i was working on and could apply what i have learnt to new things and it made everything a lot easier.

There is a football team which plays on a Monday night which was great when i started at the firm to allow me to meet some of the people from the office even if i am yet to go there. There is also lots of nights out with other people in my intake of trainees.

The firm is in a really unique position growing so rapidly so you get to work on a wide range of clients. They also understand that its the people who work here who make the company what it is so reward us for it and treat us extremely well even if we cant go out for meals they are finding ways to reward us.

Make sure you want to do it because it is a demanding job and can be high pressure at times especially on your training contract so you want to be here for the right reasons. Being in a client facing role personality is important so just be yourself and you'll be fine.
