  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Daily tasks include raising and allocating orders, creating job packs, uploading after photos and liaising with sub-contractors regarding work orders. I also work with certain managers and make sure their admin work completed. Other tasks include printing and organising files around the office to ensure everything is in order. This makes it easier for co workers to find the relevant documents.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As this is my first admin role at a office style workplace, I have definitely gained and developed new skills for example, my communication skills have improved as I am not able to liaise with co workers and external workers in a professional and polite manner. A skill I have gained includes organisational skills which is really important in an admin role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme as it helped me learn whilst I was working without the pressure of intense exams. I like the fact it was part time education and full time working as I learn better with practical work. I was lucky enough to have a good tutor, Hersha Sanghani and a lovely manager where I was able to balance my studies and work load.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Considering the unexpected events of the pandemic, I think LSP has done well to accommodate me and my needs. We were able to stay in contact via Zoom and was able to continue my learning via this way. However, I do think a face to face meeting/review would have been more beneficial.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received 100% support from my employer including my manager and team members. They allowed me to use at least a day in the week to focus on my studies and more time if needed considering my work was completed. I was always made aware if I needed more help/time I can request it at any time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support was there whenever I needed especially from my tutor Hersha Sanghani. She was approachable and easy to work with which was great considering most of our meetings happened via Teams. I can see she cared a lot about the students she works with and wants the best for them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like it helped me understand the company I work for more and in detail about the history and the type of company it is. However, the content of the course was irrelevant to the role of the job and has no impact on what I needed to know for the job. I believe, I would have had the same outcome in the job role even without the course.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I was involved in a residential trip packed with team building activities in the beginning of the course which was a great introductory period. However due to the pandemic we are unable to take part in any activities or social events. Maybe once the restrictions have eased, we can start thinking about this.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think Kier is a great company to work for because of the employees. They are understanding and helpful and have a great work ethic. I am lucky enough to have a great team who are always willing to teach me and support me when needed. I would definitely recommend Kier to others and think it is a great place to work especially for a first office job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • The application process was pretty simple - I applied online and was called in for an interview. The interview was more about informing me about the apprenticeship and a few general interview questions were asked so they could get a feel about my work ethic. I did not take part in any assessment days for my job role but I believe other job roles do involve this in the recruitment process.
