  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  •  As a Duty Manager at Premier Inn Penrith my job role is to make sure every guest enjoys excellent service from every member of staff on duty.  I organise, inspire, coach and support every member of the team to do their best for every guest, every day. As well as championing great service in my shift briefs and debriefs, I play an active role in delivering it myself.  I take payments, keep personal data safe, and make sure any complaints are resolved swiftly and satisfactorily.  I bring proven experience of shift leadership in a customer facing environment.  Both a leader and a team player, I'm highly organised yet flexible, with excellent problem- solving skills and I have a flair for coaching others.  I have excellent IT skills as I use a range of systems.  I really care about our guests.  I'm committed to my colleagues too, and I work hard for them.  Crucially, I always strive to be the best in everything I do.  Being a Duty Manager at Premier Inn is a key role in ensuring team and guest safety too, so I am confident and pro-active in my approach to managing risk and ensuring a safe working environmen

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt about managing people amd coaching. How to organise time. Management types. I am always developing the way in which I manage my team with the apprenticship. It’s had been very beneficial to me amd the company. I have looked more into financial risk which I am not as familiar with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am finding it pretty difficult with motivation at the moment, with lockdown and not having a team to run as I normally would it’s hard. Everyone is on furlough and so motivation for the apprenticship is very low so not so much enjoying it, I do hope motivation comes back.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My trainer and the webinars are very consistent. However everything is online. My last apprenticship level 3 was face to face and I found this more motivating. I understand with covid this is not possible. I hope that soon we can meet. There is work set to do each week so always know where I am supposed to be

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am a lone worker with covid at the moment and so do not see anyone much, however whenever I ask I always get any support that I may need. So there is never a problem. My deputy hotel manager Sarah has filled in my endorsement skills forms for me

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is always on the end of a phone, he always replies to emails and messages. Amends dates and times of needed of our appointments, always offering an extra hand as he knows that I am struggling. He is very good. He always speaks in a language that I understand.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes it definitely will help me within my role. It is things that I already kind of knew but going into it in more detail and I am gaining a new understanding of the subjects. I can’t wait to manage a team again and then I can use my new knowledge

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Premier inn do a lot of voluntary work for great Ormond street hospital. I have a keen input in this and I have organised many events. During covid I have taken part and organised sponsored walks and runs and tried to get the rest of the team involved. It’s a great cause.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Whitbread are a great company to work for, always changing with trends and giving out excellent customer service. The guest really is at the centre of what we do, also the team are well looked after and have a great rewards and recognition program. New training always coming out to make sure we know all we need too


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • Be yourself and be bubbly. It’s great to work for a company that cares. You must be dedicated hard working and caring. Great benefits come with the job for example getting up to 50 percent off premier inn rooms accross the globe. Uniform provided. Be part of a great team
