  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role is managing the spares contract with Boeing and ensuring everything runs as it should and any charges that come through are investigated and challenged accordingly to avoid unnecessary cost exposure to the business. The main charges that are investigated and challenged are relating to not normal wear & tear on parts returned to Boeing

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The biggest skill that i have learnt more on and developed is the skill of effective negotiation whilst working closely with Boeing and other departments within TUI. This has proved invaluable whilst working with Boeing as they are known to charge for everything, so being able to negotiate well with Boeing has been a very useful skill to get charges overturned and reversed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the programme and have found that working through the programme has helped me learn and develop new skills and attributes that will help me in my current role and to continuously develop myself and provide me with transferrable skills that I can take with me in to new roles in my career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Unfortunately I have had a few less than positive experiences due to my mentor changing numerous times at the beginning of the programme. The first mentor did not make any contact for over 3 months, and then the next 2 mentors I have had have left and moved on to other roles. I have found this very disruptive and has delayed my progress.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support received from the apprenticeship team at my employee has been great, and they have been working hard to try to get me back on track following all the delays and issues that I experienced at the start of the programme. The support from immediate management hasn't been positive at all and most of the time, there hasn't been any support at all and I have felt I have been left alone.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At the beginning of the programme the support from the provider was not good due to no contact for 3 months, and then numerous changes to the individual mentors that I was assigned. All support now is through internal mentors and they are working with the provider, so I have not got any real contact with the provider currently.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Everything that I have worked on through the programme has highlighted areas in my day to day working life that I can improve and work on. BY working on these skills, it has enabled me to be a lot more productive in daily work life, and this has enabled me to become more efficient.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Under normal circumstances there are a number of extra curricular activities that I or others can join if they wish. These range from walking and running clubs, a company choir. there is a theatre club that allows employees to purchase cheaper tickets to big west end and some local theatre shows. There are other events that happen through the year on an adhoc basis and there is always a variety of things to choose from if employees wish to sign up to these events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall there are absolutely loads of opportunities across the business and in such a variety of different areas of the business. If in the right department, there is countless support with individual development and progression. There is a great social side to the business as well, and no-one is forced to take part in activities if they do not wish to participate.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Having a passion for travel and exploring will be great, absolutely not essential though. Having an open mind to explore new ways of working is great and new ideas are generally taken on and explored to see if these can work. Employees are valued and encouraged to do the best of their personal ability.
