  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Auditing financial companies based in the Edinburgh office. This involves completing testing of the relevant FSLIs for that company and obtaining evidence that the accounts of the company are true and fair. We complete testing on a range of areas but is mainly focused on Revenue/Expenses and Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt more knowledge of auditing in general and increased my overall knowledge of financial companies. I have been working as part of a team throughout my placement and this has improved my communication skills. My technical skills have improved through the use of Excel and many different formulas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed being in a corporate atmosphere and getting to know other employees of PwC throughout my placement. I also enjoyed increasing my knowledge of the companies I worked on. Working virtually was a challenge but I thought it was well dealt with by PwC and did not affect my time on placement too much.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised, we had induction training and two days at the end of placement to organise our admin tasks which were very useful in finishing off the placement. The training at the start of placement was used to consolidate what we learnt during the first placement and see if we could get used to working with PwC again before our second placement started.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There were always people who you could go to to ask questions if you had any issues whether it be IT related or work related. For myself, the people on my team were very supportive and motivating whilst I was working and they were always available if I needed any advice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • This is hard to answer as there is not much support needed from the training provider during placement as PwC handle the majority of issues. We had a mid placement catch up with a contact from university which was definitely useful to check in and monitor progress during the placement.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The topics that we study and the knowledge we gain from the university modules definitely help with our work at PwC with general knowledge about accounting/auditing being used throughout placement and the more technical, topic specific knowledge being used less often but no less important to our ability to work on placement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there were, but clearly for obvious reasons these were not operating during this placement with all the restrictions in place. There were virtual events held during placement, some of which I attended. These were good to have to have a change from working which was nice and refreshing during placement.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Great place to work, people are friendly, work is enjoyable. Activities are organised e.g. team socials and events. I would recommend working at PwC. The training is good and is just a good place to work all round. I've only had experience in the Edinburgh office but I'm sure this translates across the UK.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Make sure your excel skills are up to scratch. Research which office you want to apply for as there can be differences between them. Talk to anyone you know who has worked at PwC/works at PwC currently for advice on the assessment process as I believe it changes every so often.
