  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being part of a team and auditing certain line items of the financial statement of the client. My role also involves talking to the client when questions arise during the testing process. After all data is gathered and questions are answered I document these in the audit file where the manager goes and reviews my work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have most certainly developed my technical knowledge when compared to last year. I have a better understanding of the client as this was my second year working on the same client. Also, as I tackled more trickier areas of the audit I have improved my professional knowledge and judgement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed this programme and would recommend this to anyone thinking on joining. As I reached my final placement I can see how far I have come in regards of professional knowledge and experience when compared to my peers who didn't take on the programme. You meet new people constantly and hence you have a good social experience as well at work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised so that when PwC welcomes the students for their placements expectations are set and everyone knows their responsibilities. There is a good balance between the lectures and the placement that take place during the 2 semesters. The structure of this programme is also good as there are a lot of people as your support on any matter.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Based on my experience I have worked with a great team and hence received a great amount of support from them. Any time I had questions there was always someone to answer them and go through technical areas with me throughout the audit. Coaching was very important and I am pleased that I had a team where everyone was able to help me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As my training provider is ICAEW and the University of Reading I have received a good amount of support in terms of my qualifications. Lectures in the University of Reading are helping us throughout the year going through the material needed to be learnt in order to pass the ICAEW exams and hence get the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Lecturers are helpful on providing and explaining the material needed to pass the relevant exams. Online lectures and workshops are provided as well as revision exercises to go through so that we can constantly revise and keep on track with the material. ICAEW also provides past papers which are really helpful when revising before the exams.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are a lot of extra-curricular activities to get involved at work such as social clubs. This year I have taken part in some of them (e.g. bingo night) which was very entertaining and fun as a lot of people from my office joined and we had a really good time. There were also some cooking off challenges.
