  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an auditor, you will be assigned to an audit team working on a specific client which can vary from any industry. You will look into the financial statements in further analysis in terms how the numbers were formed, if they are line with the policy and if they agree. It is complex when you first start but with more experience things do become easier.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • It allowed me to develop skills such as communication, organisation as well as softwares such as excel. These are very useful skills to have not only as an auditor but for other jobs too because it can be required. It also allowed me to learn new skills such as the auditing software they use internally as well as clients accounting systems which is complex at first.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall the programme was nice. The fact that you still have the opportunity to attend University as well as work at the same time. What you learn at Uni you can apply to the place of work which comes in very handy. You get to experience the life as a student and as a professional employee.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very nicely structured. For the 1st year you attend university. Then for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year the placement is embedded in the year. For example you attend university in September to mid December. Then placement occurs between mid December to start of April. Finally, you have your exams during May/June. That still gives you time to enjoy for the summer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I received was very good. You get some training before you actually work on clients. It gives you a good feel in terms of what to expect. You also receive coaching/training even during client work which is very helpful. Even if you are stuck you will have someone senior to help around. Due to Covid-19 we have been working remotely, so it has partially impacted the speed of the support but overall it is very good.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university provides a lot of support. From learning the content to be able to apply them into the exams. Lecturers have been flexible in the year providing meetings when needed as well as providing recorded lectures/seminars so that our memory stays refreshed. In general the lectures are very good at explaining things.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With the qualifications it allows you to apply what you have learnt at university into the real world. The things that we learn are relevant to our field of work. Especially the modules of tax, audit and accounting. They all place a vital role within our understanding and teaching us how to apply it in context.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to Covid-19, there has been a limit in terms of the social activities available as per Government guidelines. Even then there still some forms of extra activities that do occur remotely which is very nice. Hopefully, in the years to come there will be more extra curricular activities to be involved with.
