  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I perform audit work for a variety of clients. This involves working with a range of people from PwC as well as the client. I am usually involved with performing testing of different financial statement items. Occasionally I will also communicate with different PwC teams such as the service delivery centre

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This placement provides me with experience in the accounting sector, which is crucial in obtaining the ACA qualification. This job also teaches vital skills such as effective communication, time management and task prioritisation. There are also a wide range of internal training courses which are available to all employees to do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I get to meet a wide range of people while on placement by working with a number of different teams. The work we do is important and has a real impact in the business world, however there is a high need to work for long hours in a short space of time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Before each placement begins, we are given a 1 week training course which introduces us to the type of work we will be performing. As well as this, there is constant support available around your work. You are assigned a career coach who is available to answer any queries and support you throughout your career.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a strong mentor system (career coaches), which allows each employee to be supported by a more senior employee throughout their time at the company. There are countless portals which can be accessed in order to seek further support from HR, payroll and other employee focused resources. Support is always available for each scenario.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Upon joining, you will receive regular emails showcasing the latest events hosted by the ICAEW as well as any upcoming important changes on a timely basis. However, most of your support network consists of the employer and university, therefore there is limited proactive support from the ICAEW as it is not necessary.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I receive is directly relevant to my role. In my role, I apply what I learn through my studies and exams which enables me to understand the work I perform and the impact it has on a larger scale. This all enables me to achieve my ACA as quickly as possible

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • During the third placement, no such events could take place due to COVID-19. However, there are usually social events held throughout the year such as christmas socials, charity fundraising events. During COVID-19 there were a number of virtual events, such as performances from music artists, Q&As with university lecturers.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC offers a good environment to learn audit and build a solid base of knowledge for accounting. It is a globally known company with a strong reputation for its high quality of work. There is also a strong support network so any questions are answered on a timely basis and in good detail


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Prepare for the assessment day, as PwC will be looking closely for the characteristics needed to join the firm. Once you join, do not be afraid to ask for help as everyone is happy to help and does not shy away. Proactively seek opportunities to work on jobs that interest you as your decision is taken into account.
