  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definetly been able to consolidate and develop existing skills. In addition to this I have now begun to explore and learn new skills as the course progresses post Year 1. The subjects and aspects of the course have allowed me to explore skills I would probably not have the opportunity to exploit or develop in my business as usual role. I am looking forward to seeing how the course allows for further development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme has been very beneficial for my development both in terms of technical ability but also when looking at the softer skills required in the workplace. It is important for employees to benefit from a range of academic background and perspectives in order to develop their professional expertise, and this course is an enabler for those early in their careers to achieve this aim. I look forward to further development in this respect.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is particularly supportive in my apprenticeship. For example, I am granted 20% of my paid work time to study for the apprenticeship, which is very valuable in ensuring that I achieve the most out of the course, which ultimately should benefit my employer in the longer term. This additional time is something valued by all staff undertaking the apprenticeship at my organisation and we all feel as if we have the support from management as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider and lecturers are always on hand should any of the students have any questions. I always find that the training provider provides timely and detailed advice and has time to discuss any additional detail or questions that a student may have at any particular time on the course. The material provided to aid learning is also always of a very good quality, and easy to digest and understand. I have found them receptive to feedback as well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My workplace has several extra curricular activities that staff can be involved with. This ranges from sporting activities through to other generic hobbies. There is a strong culture of support and inclusivity in the organisation which is valued and demonstrated by all staff that I have interacted with. I have been particularly impressed with the range of topics covered by working groups or clubs which are in addition to the role of the organisation. This is demonstrated through the output of the work of the organisation.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bank of England to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The Bank has a very inclusive culture, and there is such a wide range of role and jobs that one could undertake in the Bank. I have seen other staff who have had a very varied and enjoyable career path across a number of disciplines and this shows the inclusive and supportive culture that the organisation wishes to promote. This is all key in ensuring a productive and efficient workplace, something I beleive the organisation achieves.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bank of England?
  • Before applying for a role at the organisation ensure that you have undertaken your reading on the purpose of the overall organisation including its mission statement and objectives. This will enable you to understand the wider impact and picture of the more granular work you will be undertaking on a day to day basis. In addition to this you should research the particular areas which you are interested in working with to allow you to understand how the areas operate and their specific outputs to ensure that you are best suited, and interested in this line of work.
