  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role in this apprenticeship is to work within a team to carry out an individual task. We carry out tasks such as electrical work, hand-fitting, machining and much more. When we are working we learn to work in a team, we learn to experience responsibility in a team such as being alerted to health and safety. This will overall provide us with strong preparation on how working life is outside the training school.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my time in the apprenticeship I have picked up many valuable skills and progressed myself as well. The apprenticeship has provided me with adequate training in anything I may need or want to learn. These skills are qualities I can apply in the workplace or in my daily life. These are basic things such as how to use a ladder or how to identify a risk, which seem easy but are very important.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. It has provided me with the confidence I once lacked. The work is set at a good pace and the tutors provide us with all the information we may need to carry out the work. The programme has also taught me a lot about team work and how important it is to work in a team. This programme did meet my expectations highly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Although the programme is great and I enjoy it, I do think it could be organised to a higher standard. I feel as if when I started, although it was in the field I wanted to be in, I was left in the dark about what was in store and as one of the youngest apprentices, the future of my education from then on. Although this information was readily available if I asked, I feel as if it would be more beneficial to provide this information in paper form for students to refer back to. Other than this, the training is great and the tutors provide a great support team.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe that we are provided with lots of support from our employer. They are always available for you to talk to and if not, someone else will always be there to guide you with your problems. If you ever have any questions, they will always be answered and you will always have the support of managers, mentors etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards our qualifications we are highly supported by our training provider. They are always very up to date on everything ensuring work is being produced on time. There are regular 1 to 1 check ups to see how we are handling to workload and if there is anything they can do to help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as if everything we are learning will be beneficial in our future in the industry. The theory we are taught sets a strong base understanding underneath our practical learning, helping us understand why we do things. This is a great way for me to learn personally, and I believe it will set me with a strong understanding in the future.
