  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Installing cable and containment and other electrical work. Installing panel heaters, lights, sockets, water pumps. Rising mains pulling in the cables and fixing and terminating the ryfield on the wall supplying the power for a block of flats. Also fixing metal conduit and trunking in sub stations to protect the cables.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to prepare metal conduit, plastic conduit, metal trunking, plastic trunking, metal tray. I’ve also learnt to terminate cables such as singles, twin and earth, armoured cable, SY cable and data cable. I’ve also got a cscs ecs card and have learnt how to safely work on site

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I quite enjoy it learning new things and its a good career and the money is quite good for my age. I also like the practical side and working with my hands so i prefer that work to the book word such as maths and scince and the theory lessons at college

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Its quite well organised with regular reviews to check how im getting on at college along with apprentice co orderntors at college to check what work i’m doing and to make sure im learning on the job and not just being used as a labourer for the company on site

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A good amount with regular reviews to make sure I don’t have any problems at college with the work or any problems at work like bullying or making sure i’m learning and being taught work i dont know yet. They also helped pay for me learning to drive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support with regular apprenticeship reviews at college and an apprentice co ordernator who checks up whether i’m doing the right work for my course work and if i’m getting the right training and expierience on the job. Through corona they have also sent out work to do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me as i’m more capable on site and can help out and do more work on site and contribute more to the job. It helps me improve my skills so that when im on site I don’t have to waste an electricians time being taught everything.

  • Its a good job the people who work there are good and you make decent money learning a trade

  • Be prepared with a CV and come across professional when applying/being interviewed
