  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is an apprentice Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Technician. I observe and assist where appropriate the maintenance operations and maintenance procedures that are carried out daily to keep the site operating.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new technical skills from observing and carrying out maintenance on different plant equipment as well as developed skills such as communication and teamwork skills as the work on site is usually carried out in small teams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as I work with an excellent team that are more than willing to help me develop during my apprenticeship and I have a great interest in the work that I carry out.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured as I receive the correct training where required and the support from work and my training provider is there if required. I also have plenty of time for studying to complete any assignments.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I can always go to my manager for support if I require it and they will always assist me in any way possible, other members of my team are also very supportive and have been very helpful so far in my apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor at my training provider is very willing to help and I am able to contact them at any time with any problems that I have to do with work or gaining my qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • After completing my first year at my training provider it felt like I had some basic knowledge that I could use at work, I use the basic skills that i learnt at college on a day to day basis and they have helped me throughout my apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no extra-curricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • SSE is an excellent company with the facilities to provide a great environment for learning and developing during an apprenticeship. They have good company rules and morals and overall is a great place to work. The team I work with couldn't be better and are always there for support.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Stay calm and be yourself during any interviews. Don't be afraid to ask questions as everyone is very friendly and relaxed.
