  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • An overview of my job role is that i perfrom and carry out die maintenance when it is required, this involves a process of checking dies that come into the tool room and fixing / repairing aspects of them if they need it such as grinding burrs, welding steels, fabrication and assembly or dissassembly

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • through out my time so far inside the tool room i have learnt an incredible amount of both practical skills and theory knowledge. the practical skills that i have learnt all resolve around techniques such as machining, welding and grinding techniques and new and different equipment / machines, process and understanding

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy my apprenticeship and programme a huge amount, i really enjoy the days that i spend working and learning and enjoy the whole apprenticeship. the work that im doing and learning about i have a great intrest in and enjoy the practical hands on sides of things a great deal too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • my Apprenticeship on a grand scheme of things is very well organised and structured. i always have work that i can be doing during my placements and i also always know where to be and whats happening during the week. the only side where the structre is lost slightly is at my training provider swindon college where due to some tutors the days can be quite unstructured

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive a huge amount of support through out the whole apprenticeship and also on a day to day basis. there is constant support from my manager as she routinely checks up on as through meetings and asks if we have any concers / is always there incase we need to talk to her or to inform her of something. i also recieve support from the people around me and the tutors / mentors i work with if i get stuck

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • our training provider currently is swindon college and this is where we learn all the theory side of the course. there is a large amount of support when we are working towards our qualifications and completing work as if we are ever stuck we have many ways of contacting and recieiving help from them

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i feel strongly that the qualifications being taught to us from our training provider helps us to perfrom bbetter in our roles because it gives us the extremly vast basic knowledge on the processes, tasks and outcomes that we can then use to put into practice or to recongise which contributes massively when performing better

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes, there are alot of extra curricular activities that can be done at work. firstly there are a range of sporting activities including the mountain challenge and the week at skern lodge and there is always the ability to suggest actvites and events which will most likely be accepted such as baking and other gardening oppitunites

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • if the person i knew had an intrest for engineering then i would most definetly recommend BMW. i believe that they allow you to learn all the key aspects of engineering really well whilst enjoying the best practical work at the same time. they also look after you very well and ensure that you're happy there as well


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • tips and advance i would give to someone who is applying is to instantly express your intrest for engineering, showing that you're passionate about the topic will really benefit you and that if you have made or created and even fixed something before find evidence of when you did that and show and present that to which will support you passion plus show your ability
