  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have to regularly check that all tickets are being updated by my colleagues - check our dashboard, send emails, update tickets ect. I chair a call which involves checking that my team are continuing to update tickets that are new, about to reach their SLA or have breached. Attend other team calls. Revise for my last 2 tests and continue to do project work. Other work is more random

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • All of the Information Technology (IT) skills I have learnt are new skills. Those skills include - ITIL v4 which is more about management and processes. Also coding and logic, server fundamentals, networking fundamentals and developing windows 10 - these are more technical skills. Whilst doing tickets I have learnt a lot from google and my colleagues also. I have better written communication skills now compared with when i started.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • During the beginning, I enjoyed my programme thoroughly. I was doing a lot of revision so i was learning a lot, i was meeting a lot of new people and I gradually increased my work load as time went on. I enjoy it a little less now as my workload has increased a lot and I feel like I am not able to study during working hours - just in my free time now.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would like to say from firebrands side - it is very structured, I am checked on regularly, my mentor is amazing and encourages me to work my hardest and achieve the best grades that I can. I know exactly what needs to be done and in what sort of time frame.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would have to say, I do receive quite a lot of support from my employer - more so when the apprenticeship begun compared with now. In addition to that, I would say I receive quite a lot of support from my colleagues - they are always there to help me when I am stuck.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Firebrand is amazing! I receive all the support i need and more. I have a mentor who check on me regularly, when he was on holiday, I had one of his colleagues check on me a couple of times and he was equally as good. The staff are very helpful when at the site too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualifications (through my training provider) definitely helps me to perform better in my role as i am required to be technical and if it is not taught then i have to teach myself. I have used google a lot in the past and since i have continued to tests, i have used google less and less.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately i have not attended any Christmas parties yet. IT didnt have one. However when it is one of our colleagues birthdays, when someone is leaving or when someone is joining - usually we go out for drinks. We also have charity days where sometimes theres bikes that you can try and race on ect.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have found that the environment is very nice to be in, everyone is very welcoming and patient. I have learnt so much since working at WillisTowersWatson, my people skills have improved, i feel like i have matured a lot more and i have definitely gained a lot of knowledge about IT!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • I would say, just be yourself and there is no need to be scared! The environment can be quite intimidating if you haven't been in one like that before. Be inquisitive and make sure you ask everything you want to know - it only makes you look more interested. Definitely be prepared.
