  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We're preparing to go on site and perform an important maintenance role, most days that involves learning installation and testing with various materials and scenarios. Theory is often mixed in with the practical work so there's always an opportunity to learn something useful and new. One day a week is a college day where we complete more of the academic side of the apprenticeship.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt many skills in the time I've been here and I'm excited to learn more. My improvement isn't just limited to skills with my tools, I've had the opportunity to develop my people skills, building strong bonds with my co workers and hugely boosting my confidence both in my work and in myself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and look forward to my time ahead with the company. The people are easy to get on with and mostly work well together in a friendly and efficient environment. I didn't fully know what to expect when joining this company but I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming culture the people and the company as a whole provide.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There's rarely been a time when I haven't known what to do next, moving from the introductory week to starting training and continuing on to where I am now has all been fairly smooth and simple, even with some rocky times in my personal life. The support from my team and managers has been very good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • AWE seem very conscious about their employees, they offer many types of support for all kinds of reasons. They're very keen to look after employees' mental health, openly encouraging people to be more comfortable with being able to talk about their issues, and this mindset continues for almost any way people need support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 8/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The theory that we learn at college gives us a strong understanding of how what we do at work works. It gives some explanation for what happens in the industry that we work in and other industries that relate, this means we'll have more opportunities once the apprenticeship is over than just what we have been doing.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • 8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • AWE has been a real game changer for me, going through a long chain of trying to find somewhere where I fit in and could do something I enjoyed, I joined AWE and haven't looked back. It's been brilliant working here and myself and my life have really improved for it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • The application process does take a long time, but it's worth it once you're in. The assessment day is a great way to meet a few people and recognize some faces in your first few days and as far as interviews go it's a fairly relaxed environment, especially if you get to know some of the people on the assessment day.
