  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i love it, its like a brand new language to me. i look forward to going in everyday. everyone makes you feel welcomed, the managers are skilled and are always available if we need them. they do not discriminate against anything, it has been thanks to AWE that after all these years i have finally had the diagnosis that i am dyslexic, it has always been a challenge in my life throughout school and previous employment but nothing was done about it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the introduction to the company was long but they reduced it for last years starters, training has always been spot on, the managers always give 100% to us. day release to college to help get the BTEC level 3. daily meetings with our team and managers that help us know what is going on in the business and any safety information that we need. the hierarchy seem to be down to earth and do care about us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • with support it is beyond belief with the diagnosis of dyslexia by an external company, full support in anything that helps me such as colored lined paper, reading aids, and a company laptop. it is easy to contact people within AWE and they will always help where they can, its like a little town where everyone knows everyone so you feel welcomed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • loads the tutors go out of there way to find info on the problems that you encounter if they do not already know, they will steer you in the right direction without making you feel like you just failed and its not good enough. i do really enjoy it, fun and educational, never heard of that before.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • without it i would be lost, without a clue on what im supposed to be doing, let alone what a resistor is. everything we get taught we do a practical piece that is based on the lessons that we had. as i have said before this is like a new language to me learning more everyday, gaining confidence more and more everyday.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • within the Apprentice academy at AWE there is the 3a`s which is run by apprentice for apprentices, they have meets and greets, help out in the community, and organize fun activities for all to do if they would like to. i have made new friends that i have met outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • AWE is a fun place to work, they can teach you all the required skills that you need to know, they are a huge company so there will be more than likely a apprenticeship that you would like to do and get a career instead of just a 9-5 job. many benefits of working here, 9-day fortnight. generous holidays.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • Be yourself there is no right or wrong answer. assessment days are quite fun, when in your interview dont panic or feel shy, just be yourself, the online application can be a bit long, but not as bad as having to redo your car insurance every year. keep your CV up to date. keep all certificates.
