  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a mechanical maintenance technician and on a daily basis I will arrive to work and have a morning agender where we will look at jobs that need to be complete and priorities them, we then allocate engineers to each job depending of what certain people are good at, we will then go to the job and complete them, once returned we will collect other jobs that need to be completed and continue this until the end of the day, we will then log the jobs we have done and go home

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained much knowledge and skills during my apprenticeship, due to skills academy and site, at the start of the apprenticeship you start in the academy which is where you learn the fundamentals of your trade so you have a slight idea of what your are to expect on site, I am now on site and I have learned and gained a lot of experience and skills due to working with experience craftsman and doing real jobs

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in my apprenticeship so far and am looking foward to what the foreseeable future holds for me, I have love meeting new people and learning loads of new skills which can be helpful at work and at home, I feel my experience had been great

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure and organisation has been classed all of my line managers have been class and everyone had been helpful along the way, this includes getting Ppe and also preparing us for site, the structure is very straight forward allowing you to strive as it’s not differecult to understand what is required, between higher management in the academy I think communication lacks a litlle, but overall they do well and are very helpful

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my company if it’s home life or work life, there are very understanding and will help you wherever they can, they also support you through learning and gaining experience helping you with write ups and practical tasks, they also make sure they layout a clear understand of they except of you

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At college support is very good and they always make sure you are on track to pass, I work the support is also very good and they are always making sure you are thriving and becoming equipped with the knowledge you need to complete your apprenticeship, also they are always there to talk to and explain things

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think they equip our training providers very well as our mangers always know what we need to do to reach the demands of the qualification expectations, also they give booklets and hand outs which also help us as they act as a tick list so we do not miss out anything

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I think there is a football team however there aren’t many extra curricular activities, Ik they hold a anuul charity tournament which is always fun and they do small cake sales and litlle things for people to get involved in so they do try to get people to work together

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Cause it’s a great place to work and such a security based Place which is great for secure ness, you’ll find awe don’t juts help you to become a good craftsman or whatever you join as but the job comes with a lot more benifits outside the job


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • Make sure it’s what you want to do and always be positive about everything, and make sure you take you time and read everything propely when applying so you know exactly what your going into, don’t get into trouble and enjoy as you’ll normally go quite far and do well there
