  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working within a retail store for 12 months completing the daily tasks of a travel advisor and learning the managerial role along side. Handling money, booking, amending and cancelling holidays. Training other team members. Going on educational work trips to be able to upsell products and teach other staff about them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot more managerial skills during my current placement year by being given the opportunity to take on an assistant manager style role witching the working environment. Also it has improved my business knowledge and made me much more aware of the retail side of TUI as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. Support is everywhere and the whole business is on board with our programme and try to help us where they can. Both work and university are very helpful and flexible to make studies and work coincide with one another for the best flowing learning experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme has great structure. We have a clear manager in our individual teams and the points of contact with all the early talent and apprenticeship team within TUI. This being said we are also exposed to senior managers across the business in our learning block weeks which it’s amazing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employers support goes above and beyond. They are so helpful and accommodate our needs to the best they possibly can. Nothing is ever too much and they also encourage us to get involved with other activities across the business to enhance our own personal skills. I cannot vault the support

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university support as best as they possibly can however sometimes it can be difficult as we only do block learning weeks and then will not see tutors for three to four months. We have online communications with the university and can arrange to Skype or teams chat with lectures if needed

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Being able to learn the theory behind the practical is really beneficial. Many units we have studied in university I have seen applied in work wether this be before the teachings or after. It gives me a better understanding of what I’m doing in my day job and what I am working towards.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • YES ! TUI have so many extra activities to get involved in. The business is full of social events after work, inside of work there are events going on - movie lunches, lunch and learn, quizzes, product launches! There really is always something to do. We also have the opportunity to get involved with professional networking events

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • TUI is a fantastic company to work for. I think the degree program is an amazing experience and gives you an unbeatable exposure across the whole business. I am thoroughly enjoying my time in TUI and cannot wait to graduate and start my career within the business to become senior leadership


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Make sure you know the brand and what we do. TUI is all about its people and customers. It is important to have an interest in the travel sector as if you don’t you’re apply for the wrong job! Be confident, calm and collected and make sure you do your research!
