  • My role includes rotating through the skills academy gaining fundamental electrical and mechanical engineering skills, and periodic placements at university studying a BEng mechanical engineering with nuclear science.

  • I’ve developed existing skills and learned some new skills such as electronic and electrical skills, wiring, soldering etc..

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it a lot. Working with like-minded people, learning new skills and growing academically every day.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is new so some aspects are a matter of trial and error, however the company’s professional approach make this a smooth experience.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my employer and from my line manager who are supportive and approachable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A great deal of support. Our working day is altered depending on what we need, we’re giving time to work on assignments and help is constantly available.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Extremely well. Without the training I would not be able to carry out my role working with radioactive materials.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is grounds that are part of site specifically for that purpose. The ‘rec-soc’ is for socialising with a gym, bar, and sports fields. There are clubs for all kinds of activities and often there are networking events that we are encouraged to attend.

  • Yes

  • Pick a course that will challenge you, and make the most of the learning facilities on offer.
